Día De los Muertos ofrenda Candle
Day of the Dead “Dia de los Miertos” is a Mexican celebration where families gather to honor the memories of deceased loved ones. In a tradition that dates back to Mesoamérica, offerings are left on meticulously decorated altars where it is believed the spirits of our loved ones are guided back to enjoy the offerings left for them.
The altar is a complex creation with much symbolism. Each of the four elements is included in the altar and carries a specific & important meaning.
The Fire element is depicted in the form of a candle or torches which symbolizes our love for our loved ones and is a guiding light for their spirit.
Flowers also hold much symbolism & importance. Cempazuchitl (calendula) yellow flowers with their vibrant color and scent guide the spirits into the mortal world. Purple flowers represent the traditional color of mourning in Mexico, and white flowers represent the sky.
Calaveras (skulls) are representation of our deceased loved ones. Traditionally made of sugar and eaten after the celebration. In symbolism the Catrina was a reminder that we are all mortal in the physical world and material possessions mean nothing, in death we will all be reduced to bones and no one is of higher status or importance than another.
Our Dia de los Muertos ofrenda candle encompasses important elements of your ofrenda. The fire element, the flower element & the calavera (skull) making it a perfect addition to your traditional ceremony.
